The Jacobsson lab

The Jacobsson Lab is led by Jesper Jacobsson, Associate Professor in Materials Science at Linköping University. The group is based at the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (IFM), within the Division of Electronic and Photonic Materials (EFM).

Established at Linköping in 2024, the lab focuses on artificial intelligence for materials science, with the goal of accelerating the discovery and optimisation of functional materials. A central theme is the integration of machine learning, automated experimentation, and data-driven methodologies to enable more efficient and systematic exploration of complex materials spaces, with a particular focus on perovskite optoelectronics.

The research combines robot platforms for high-throughput synthesis and characterisation with active learning approaches based on Bayesian optimisation, enabling closed-loop experimentation. A longer-term objective is the development of agentic AI systems for autonomous inverse material design. By bridging AI, FAIR data infrastructure, and laboratory automation, the group contributes to the development of next-generation autonomous research workflows for accelerated materials development.
